Barnett Valley

Design process

Sometimes we arrive to a location that allows us to sit and reflect with our surroundings. Such was our experience at Barnett Valley. This area is much more about the greater ecosystem, that it helped guide our work. Rolling native grasslands and chapparal forests surround the homesite, so we leaned into this to create a landscape that would blend and emerge from its environment.

Very few exotic plants were used and those that were, are situated nearest to the home. The architecture is modernly styled with Japanese techniques and influences, so we added a few plantings that would accentuate this. What we are left with is a landscape that honors its surroundings by reflecting it, and blends with the architecture that was built there.
